Hemp Oil Dosage

Understanding the mechanism of CBD as well as its use is confusing for both experienced and inexperienced users since the industry is still somewhat fresh. There are a lot of questions that we get every day from our readers and one of the most frequently asked is “What dosage of CBD is the best for me?

Although there might be a lot of studies and publications about the possible benefits of CBD, there are only a few that touches the subject of proper dosage. Add to that problem is that there is no Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) of CBD created by the FDA unline other supplements. This means that there is no official serving size for CBD which adds to the confusion of users.

This leads to a lot of users that use CBD based on the recommendation from the brands or companies that they have bought their CBD from. Some friends might even claim to be an expert on the subject despite only using the product and not exactly being certified.

The most common dosage recommendation that we often see is to take one dropper of CBD per day. This can definitely be considered a dosage but we can not be sure if it’s the right dosage for an individual since there are a lot of other factors to consider such as the concentration of CBD, the user’s weight, the user’s body chemistry and the severity of the condition to be treated.

There’s definitely going to be some trial and errors in finding the proper dosage for you since there isn’t a one size fits all dosage.

A neuroscientist from Leafly, Nick Jikomes, explained that the receptors in our bodies’ Endocannabinoid system (ECS), which interacts directly with the CBD, changes as our body physiological state also changes. This leads to a change in the optimal CBD dosage in an individual throughout their lifetime.

To put it simply, there is no universal dosage for CBD. But how could you know how much CBD to take?

Here are 3 simple tips to find out:

How to Choose Your CBD Dosage

1. Estimate your dosage based on your body weight

As to how it is with other substances, people who have greater body mass will also need more CBD in order to feel the effects. A good rule of thumb in determining your CBD dosage is to follow taking 1-6 mg of CBD per 10 pounds of body weight, taking into consideration the level of the pain that you are experiencing.

To give an example, a 200 lb patient would need about 20 MG-33MG as a great start dose. While for an individual who weighs about 150 lb, 15-25 MG would be the best starting dose.

You can use Honest Marijuana’s Simple Dosage Calculator for reference.

2. Start small and increase gradually

One scenario is when you have a friend who weighs less than 150 pounds and takes 50MF of CBD per day. He claims that that amount is enough to provide him the benefits of CBD. Since both of you have almost the same weight, he advises you that you take the same dosage as him.

Here’s why this isn’t the best way to choose your dosage:

R.R Noall from Herb says that ” what works for your friend, may not work for you.”. All individuals are different as we all have our own history of substances, medication, supplement and other things that we might have put in our body. Each of us is made differently which means that we have different body chemistry, and this might affect how our body reacts to ingestion of CBD.

That is why it is good to consider your initial dosage first with your body weight and you see how your body reacts to that amount. You can then increase that amount gradually while continuing to see how your body reacts until you find the right dosage that works for you.

3. Consult your physician

Consult your physician first when you are in doubt especially if you have an existing medical condition. There might not be a lot of doctors who might be experienced in dealing with CBD, but most doctors should know how your body will react with CBD and give you a professional dosage that is appropriate for you.

You’re Now a CBD Dosage Expert…almost…

So, now that you know how much CBD you should take, we face another important question:

Now you know how much CBD that you need to take, but how do you accurately measure your CBD dosage?

If you think about it:

Do you know how much CBD is contained in one puff from your vaporizer? or how much CBD is in one dropper from your CBD tincture?

Even if you know how much CBD you need, it’s pretty much pointless if you do not know how to measure your dosage properly especially if different methods of consuming CBD are involved already.

But don’t worry if you’re a little confused. We’re gonna shed some light on the situation.

How to Measure Your CBD Tincture Dosage

One of the easiest and foolproof way to ingest CBD is to use a CBD tincture. You only need to fill up the dropper and place the oil under your tongue. After placing the oil under your tongue, you’ll need to hold it there for about 30 to 90 seconds before you swallow.

But, do you know how many drops of CBD oil you need?

Using basic arithmetics, you can easily find out the number of drops you need.

First, you need to know how much CBD is in a single dropper and once you know that, you can measure how much CBD you need to take.

But how will you know how much CBD is in a dropper?

One dropper typically has 1 ML of liquid and if you know how many ML are contained in a CBD tincture, you can simply use the formula below to know how much CBD is in a dropper:

[Total CBD in Bottle] ÷ [Number of Milliliters in Bottle] = MGs of CBD in a Dropper

To give you an example, if you have a 30ml CBD tincture containing 1500MG of CBD:

1500 ÷ 30 = 50MG of CBD per dropper

Now, if your optimum CBD dose is 25MG and a single dropper of a 1500MG has 50MG, then you’d only need to fill up the dropper up to half of its maximum volume capacity.

Of course, this method isn’t 100% accurate, it still beats having nothing. Remember, start with a small dosage and gradually increase until you find your perfect dosage.

How to Measure Your CBD Vape Dosage

You can use a CBD e-liquid or a CBD cartridge system to enjoy vaping CBD. Both of these methods are easy to follow and the user can enjoy the benefits of CBD quickly.

Just like with using a tincture, you will need to estimate how much CBD is contained in a dropper when vaping CBD. After you solve that out, you will then know how much CBD you are going to need to put inside a tank. As you use your vaping e-liquid or cartridge system throughout the day, you will need to be mindful on when you need to refill it and how many times you need to.

If your optimum dosage is 25 MG of CBD per day and you have a 1000MG CBD e-liquid, then a single tank would have 33.33MG of CBD. In order to reach your proper dosage, you would need to vape a single tank from time to time throughout the day.

This calculation is not 100% accurate but it still better than having nothing. With regular monitoring, you can properly measure your intake of CBD.

The Truly Accurate Way to Dose CBD

Since the methods we mentioned so far have only been semi-accurate, you’re probably wondering:

The methods that we have discussed so far are not 100% accurate. You must be wondering if there is such a method that is actually 100% accurate.

The answer is: There is. And it’s in the form of CBD Capsules.

CBD capsules provide an accurate way to dose CBD since each capsule are already filled with a specific and exact amount. If you need 16MG-25MG then you can buy a bottle of 20MG or 25MG capsules. Aside from being accurate, capsules are a very easy method to ingest CBD.

CBD applicators, CBD edibles, CBD Gummies, and CBD beverages are also just as accurate like the capsules but they are not as convenient to take or apply.
